Carewatch sponsors Lancashire Care Association Conference
28 May 2010
Carewatch, the UK leading national provider of local home care and support were the proud sponsors at the Lancashire Care Associations annual conference in Blackburn. The conference which has been running since 1998 involves more than 200 delegates from the health and social care sector across the region. The theme of this year’s conference, titled “Personalisation, partnership and quality – the independent sector taking the lead” focused on the importance of the changing world of social care provision and the part the independent sector will play in this transformation.
David Lyon, CEO of Carewatch, gave a speech at the conference which laid out a challenge to all those involved. “If we are to meet and exceed the expectations of services users in the future, we need, as a sector, to constantly improve the quality of our service and our staff. The providers and employers of choice in the future will be the ones who have the highest quality ratings, embrace change, practice continual improvement and put the service user at the heart of the service every day.” He also spoke about the part the independent sector will play in the evolution of personalisation and the need to encourage an honest and open dialogue with local authorities about how to achieve their objectives. “Innovative solutions, such as the outcome based monitoring system championed by Carewatch will be one such way to give local authorities the ability to measure and report on individual needs, their journey to independent living and the part Carewatch plays in ensuring their goals are met. The system signals a move away from traditional “task” based, more rigid service provision to a more individual approach which allows Carewatch to deliver what the service user wants, as well as being able to monitor and review progress and make the most effective use of the service Carewatch provides.”
