Careworker Wins Award for Dedication
10 February 2011
Nicky Smith from Carewatch East Surrey received an award for her dedication to helping elderly and vulnerable people. She won the Beyond the Call of Duty Care at Home award at the Surrey Care Awards.
Last week her colleagues presented her with a new computer as recognition of her acheivement. Nicky, who has worked for Carewatch for eight years commented:
"The work I do is challenging and I love a challenge. It's really nice to know that if it weren't for us going in to take care of them, our service users wouldn't be able to stay at home. It's rewarding to be able to keep people comfortable and independent in their own homes.
I feel absolutely ecstatic that I have won the award and a brand new computer system. I am really, really chuffed to bits. I never dreamed I would get nominated, let alone win. Nothing like this ever happens to me."
Carewatch director Christine Hill said:
"Nicola was nominated for this award because she listens and communicates with service users to develop their independence and self-esteem. She has proven to be an adaptable, professional, compassionate and committed staff member who does her job with warmth, a happy smile, a huge heart and is very well liked by everyone involved in the organisation."
