DIRECT PAYMENTS

Direct Payments are a Government initiative designed to give people the freedom to purchase their own care and support, since 2002 all Social Services departments offer the option of a Direct Payment to people who receive a social care and support service. With the input from local Authority, you can identify your desired outcomes, what would you like to achieve from life? You are then given a Personal Budget which you can use to choose a package of support to help meet you needs.

There are many benefits to Direct Payments – but principally they allow greater levels of flexibility and freedom for the person who needs the care and support. Assessments will be carried out by the local authority and the Direct Payment can be  used for a wide variety of services, including personal care, support, and domestic help.

Almost everyone in need of care at home can now be offered a direct payment. This includes: -

  • Elderly adults.
  • People with a physical disability who are over 16.
  • People with a learning disability who are over 16.
  • People with mental health difficulties.
  • Carers aged 16 for services to meet their own needs.
  • Persons with parental responsibility for disabled children for services to the family.
  • 16 & 17 year old disabled children for services that meet their own assessed needs

Disabled Parents would receive payments for the needs of their children ( Non Educational )
